After the launch of Tata Nano, other automakers are also planning to manufacture the low-cost car for the developing market. In this regard, General Motors has disclosed the fact that they are thinking to manufacture a car that can cost about USD 4000.

Mr. Nick Reilly, GM’s Executive Vice President of International Operations said, “When Tata Motors in India came out with their $2,500 Nano vehicle, it put a lot of auto makers on the spot.”

GM to slash up to 31,500 jobs in US

General Motors, the largest US automaker, has announced that it intends to trim down 31,500 more jobs in the US, as it confronts a severe slump that has it begging Congress for a $ 18-billion bailout.

According to the sources, the conglomerate planned to cut down its total US employment from the present level of 96,537 people to between 65,000 and 75,000 salaried and unionised workers by fiscal 2012.
