In an attempt to keep the capital’s pollution level in control, Delhi government’s transport department is about to introduce a new technology through which the pollution levels of vehicles can be checked without stopping them.
Mr. Arvinder Singh Lovely, State Transport Minister said that it was an initiative to develop pollution free transport system in Delhi without interrupting the motorists.
The new technology would use remote sensing to measure pollution levels of the vehicles.
He added that the demonstration of the technology was very impressive, and the outcome was 100% accurate for all types of vehicles whether on diesel, petrol, CNG or LPG.
There is no need to stop or slow down any particular vehicle for pollution check as the new technology would make use of ultra-violet rays and ultra-sonic waves to check vehicular pollution.
Moreover, this remote sensing technology also negates the requirement of any physical contact with the exhaust pipe.
Under its pollution check procedure, the remote sensing technology measures levels of HC (hydro-carbon), CO (Carbon-Monoxide), CO2 and NOx emitted by the vehicle.
Mr. Singh has also said that other than pollution levels, speed and pictures of the vehicles would also get recorded in the system, which could be used to check overloading of vehicles either with passengers or with goods.
