Maruti Suzuki temporarily closes SX4 production

Maruti Suzuki India (MSI), the country’s largest car maker, has temporarily stopped the production of its mid-sized sedan SX4.

MSI’s sedan SX4 failed to attract customers although it cost less than Honda City, who is presently the market leader. As per the statement issued by the company official, MSI will revise SX$ engine with a new Bharat Stage-IV engine, and also bring some change in the looks by the next few weeks.

From April, 2010, 11 cities in India will advance to the Bharat Stage-IV emission norms. Presently, Maruti Suzuki’s SX4 model is compliant with only Bharat Stage-III norms.

Talking to media, an official from MSI said, “We don’t comment on specific model production.”
