Sensex Gains 234.79 Pts During The Week

The BSE Sensex gained 234.79 points (1.29%) to 18,401.82, and the broad-based Nifty surged 78.55 points (1.44%) to 5,530.65 during the week ended yesterday.
On the second last day of the week, Sensex hit a 30-month peak of 18,454.94.
On Friday, the 30-share index dropped by 53 points.
But, the stock market gained on continued buying action by foreign funds.
The BSE Mid-Cap grew by 2.34% and the BSE small cap index surged by 1.7%.
The Sensex, on Monday, begun on a feeble note as it shed 116.25 points to close the day at 18,050.78 owing to fears over global economic recovery.
On Tuesday, the 30-share index remained stable at 18,048.85.
On the very next two days, an upbeat movement was witnessed across Sensex as it gained 406 points.
On Thursday, the Sensex increased by 197.82 points (1.08%) to 18,454.94.
On Friday, the select pivotals lost their gains on profit booking.
Weak worldwide stocks weighed on investor sentiment ahead of the weekend. The sensex fell by 53.12 points to 18,401.82.
Foreign funds had pumped in Rs 7713.97 crore in equities in June 2010, absorbing selling by domestic funds in that month. Domestic funds had dumped shares worth a net Rs 4777.05 crore in June 2010.
The industrial production increased by 7.1% in the month of June as against with revised 11.3% in May this year.
Manufacturing went up by 7.3%, mining segment gained 9.5%, consumer goods segment gained 8.3%, capital goods segment increased by 9.7% and electricity generation surged 3.5%.
The top movers during the week included ITC, ACC, Larsen and Toubro & Reliance Industries Ltd.
However, the top losers during the week were State Bank of India, Bharti Airtel and ONGC.
