Sensex At 18,231.64; IT, Telecom DownThe 30-scrip sensitive index (Sensex) of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), remained listless during noon today, though broader markets witnessed heavy buying action.

The Sensex, which belled the day at 18,215.28, gained 25.77 points (0.14%) to trade at 18,231.64 as compared to its last closure at 18,205.87.

Previously, the share index had risen to hit the mark of 18,355.84.

On the other hand, the broader 50-share S&P CNX Nifty stood at 5,485.35 after registering a meager gain of 0.2%.

Broader market indices remained in the green zone.

The BSE midcap index gained 0.65% whereas the BSE smallcap index was up by 1.06%.

The scrips from consumer durables and automobile were topping the gaining chart, while IT and telecom scrips saw huge selling pressure.

The breadth of market looked optimistic with 1,886 progressions as against 951 declinations.

Other Asian bourses remained on the positive track, supported by positive signs bobbing up from Wall Street.

The Japanese Nikkei shut the shop after surging 1.52% at 9,062.84.

Hong Kong's Hang Seng stood at 20,877.53, up 1.23%.

At the same time, the Chinese Shanghai Composite index climbed 1.09% to stand at 2,651.48.
