GM Kicks Off LNG Facility At Halol PlantGeneral Motors India Ltd has kicked off an LNG facility at its Halol plant in the state of Gujarat for supplying gas to its construction plant.

The novel manufacturing plant is an outcome of a contract between General Motors India, INOX India and BPCL for providing, re-gasification and last delivery of LNG at the company's facility.

General Motors India Ltd has decided to strengthen the Halol facility to accommodate its five novel vehicles in the light commercial and passenger vehicles segments by 2011.

The company has already moved the production of its Chevrolet Spark and Beat to its Talegaon based factory in Maharashtra.

GMI President and MD Karl Slym said that the company's unit situated at Halol would become the major hub for the LCV and passenger vehicles by 2011.

GM has decided to transfer the production of remaining of the vehicles to its Talegaon-based manufacturing facility in the state of Maharashtra.

Mr. Karl Slym stated, "We would be expanding the Halol unit to make it viable for production of LCV and passenger vehicles. The total production capacity of the Halol unit is 85,000 units and we plan to keep the numbers same after we introduce new vehicles. The unit is functioning with two shifts but once the work for the expansion is over we would be adding another."

The five new vehicles includes two LCVs and three passengers vehicles. "We plan to role them out in the market by the end of 2011," Slym said.
