World's leading generic pharmaceutical firm Cipla becomes the first from the country to bag The Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority (APVMA) nod for launching its generic omeprazole in the Australian market.

The generic omeprazole can be used for the treatment of equine ulcers.

Launched under the brand name E-Gard, this omeprazole's best quality syringe, is the generic edition of Merial`s GastroGuard.

With a sturdy demand in Singapore, HongKong, UAE, South Africa etc, E-Gard is supplied to more than 16 nations all over the world and is one of the biggest selling veterinary products of the company under the Equine section.

Mr. Sanjeev A Gupte, head- international business and supply chain, Cipla, stated, "We are proud to extend a world-class premium product like E-Gard to the Australian market and would look forward to penetrating this niche market with local partnerships. Having established a strong foothold with the product in across 16 countries, we anticipate a good demand of E-Gard in Australia."
