BMW Eyes To Set Up Second Facility In India

BMW Eyes To Set Up Second Facility In IndiaBMW has decided to establish its second facility in the India.

German premium car manufacturer is amplifying capacitance at its existing plant in Chennai and has currently hit 10,000 units yearly production capacitance.

BMW's directors said even after construction at its Chennai facility is further heightened via a second move of operations this year, it will need extra capacity.

The subsisting facility is seen as insufficient for Indian processes beyond 2015.

The Chennai plant also has little unused land to construct a second greenfield facility and so BMW may need to lookout for a new location.

The possible launching of BMW's Mini brand, plus localizing other BMW volumes models also needs a second facility, as per the company's directors and head of worldwide production, Frank-Peter Arndt.

With the second facility planned to be established after 2015, BMW will consider changing from assembling cars to complete fabrication.

BMW India started rescaling its production system in the country from September 2010 to double up its production capacitance to 10,000 units.

The company will start assembling the next gen X3 in the Indian market by June this year.
