The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) will shortly forward 18 more show-cause notices to telecommunication firms for not meeting up service rollout conditions.
DoT secretary R Chandrashekhar stated, "Two notices have already been issued and 18 more will be issued soon for cancellation of licences for not meeting rollout obligations."
But, Chandrashekhar denied disclosing the names of the companies, which will get these notices.
Earlier this month, DoT had forwarded licence termination notices to Etisalat DB and Idea Cellular.
Etisalat DB got the notice for annulment of licenses in the Mumbai and Delhi circles and Idea Cellular for the Punjab circle.
Under the UASL plan, a telecom company is necessitated to begin services in 10% of the district headquarters and towns in a circle in a period of one year of bagging the approved spectrum.
Any breach of these rules may result into a fine or annulment of the licence.
The DoT move followed the TRAI suggestion to terminate 38 licences for the operators' failure to go along with the DoT rules.
