The North and South Korea’s surprise talks over Pyongyang’s nuclear programme have encouraged the United States. On Saturday, both North and South Korea showed concern about the need of the six-party process to start again.
The six-nation talks have been aimed at persuading the North Korea to quit the nuclear programme to get the thoughtful and economic rewards. The countries like China, the United States, Japan, Russia North and South Korea have been involved in these talks.
US Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton stated that the US was encouraged by the efforts of North-South meeting that was held due to the ASEAN Regional Forum. However, to continue with the six- party talks, North Korea must make efforts to recover the North-South relations.
A joint statement was released last week where the United States, South Korea and Japan stated that Pyongyang must deal with its unrevealed uranium enrichment programme, before the restarting.
So far, uranium issue has been the biggest obstruction in the carrying out of six-nation dialogue.
According to the joint statement, "The ministers ... agreed that North Korea's uranium enrichment programme must also be addressed in order to allow for the resumption of the six-party talks".
