Ford’s New Plant Coming Up in Gujarat

Ford’s second plant in India is coming up soon in Gujarat. For same, a contract has also been signed between the Gujarat Government and the Company. According to reports, Ford has selected Gujarat because of the pro-business environment, infrastructure, and access to ports and skilled workforce, that is available in the region to serve the best purpose.
The agreement also says that Ford Motor Company will be investing an amount of Rs 4,000 crore in the new plant in Sanand, Gujarat, which will be making cars and engines. Also, it has been agreed that the project will come up on 460 acres and will be creating approx 5,000 jobs in the region, said the company, in a press release.
Ford's first plant in India was made over a decade before near Chennai. Ford India has till date made the hatchback Figo, Fiesta sedan and Endeavour SUV at the Maraimalai Nagar plant, which lies to the south of Chennai.
“Namaste Gujarat!”, said Mr. Joe Hinrichs, President and CEO of Ford Asia-Pacific and Africa. “We are delighted to announce that Ford’s newest vehicle manufacturing site will be here in Gujarat. Ford has very aggressive expansion plans in India and in Asia-Pacific and Africa, and these two new plants will be important in realizing our growth strategy here in one of the most dynamic regions in the world”, he was quoted, as saying in the press release.
