Recently, a poll was conducted to study about the region which has maximum interest of U. S. nationals.
The results of the poll were out on Wednesday and highlighted that American’s interests have now shifted from Europe to Asia, and major U. S. national interests lie in the Asian region today.
Though France, Spain and Sweden were some common names that were being expected to be heard in a survey by the plurality of respondents in nine out of 12 European Union countries, United States topped the list and remained even more important than Asia.
German Marshall Fund of the United States is a nonpartisan policy institution promoting trans-Atlantic cooperation ran the survey along with the ‘Compagnia di San Paolo’, which is a research center in Turin, Italy. The Swedish Foreign Ministry also helped in making sponsors list.
A similar survey had also been conducted by the same age group in 2004, but the findings on U. S. attitudes toward Asia and Europe notified a big transformation in the opinion of the people over the time.
According to this year's survey results, more than half of American population showed interest in Asia than Europe whereas in the earlier survey, a strong majority of U. S. respondents favored Europe than Asia.
