Sydney, Melbourne Have Rocketing Room Rates, Says ReportHotels. com recently released a report showcasing about the hotel room rates and increase in same in the time. From the report, it was revealed that the hotel room rates in Melbourne and Sydney has the highest and the fastest rising room rates worldwide in the first half of 2011.

Moreover, the report also said that Melbourne rates have shot up by approximately 11% whereas Sydney rates are citing a 10% increase year on year, says the online booking site’s Hotel Price Index. Then in the list were Australian hotel prices which increased by 9%, i. e. even higher than the 3% global average.

On the other hand, some countries also showed a downward trend. Topping this list was Canberra, which cited a fall of 8% in its room rates making the figures to $177 a night, but those figures were still up than Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne which are charging their room rates at $174, $172 and $154 respectively.

“In the first half of this year, Melbourne had the fourth largest increase in hotel prices in the world while Sydney had the sixth largest”, Hotels. com Managing Director for Asia Pacific Johan Svanstrom said. He also added in his statement that robust economy, increase in Asian demand and a strong corporate market are some big reasons that have prompted these increases.
