China Will Choose Dalai Lama’s Successor

China Will Choose Dalai Lama’s SuccessorOn Saturday, the Dalai Lama claimed to be the decider of his successor. He said that China has no right to decide that who will be chosen as his successor. But he himself, at the age of 90, will consult other monks and decide the person who seems perfect for the position.

On knowing this, it has been declared by China that if Dalai Lama chooses any successor then, he would be treated illegal. The Dalia Lama is 76 years of age and is known as the Tibetan spiritual leader.

According to Tibetan tradition, it is the monk who has the authority of identifying young boy with features of a late leader. To them, that individual is the rebirth of him, and they therefore consider him the perfect match. But, it has been predicted this time that China won't allow this system anymore and will simply take the decision in its own hand of appointing a successor to the Dalai Lama.

As told by the Chinese foreign ministry spokesman Hong Lei: "China adopts a policy of religious freedom which includes respecting and protecting the form of succession of Tibetan Buddhism. The title of Dalai Lama is conferred by the central government and is illegal otherwise".
